Here in the UK numbers of animals such as deer (of different types)are culled as a way to manage numbers. Too many deer can lead to severe environmental damage as well as endangering the health of the deer. A little like the trophy hunting referred to in the article sometimes people pay to participate in these culls.

You can pay to hunt red deer in the highlands and be welcomed for it. The king does it. Some species are protected like in Zambia, stay away from those and you can hunt.

I don’t think so this is one researchi believe has not been done. Further Animal Human Conflicts are in another sense not really related
with the effects of trophy hunting because in some countries like Zimbabweans that respects animal territories despite Zim being a serious trophy hunting destination, such conflicts arising from trophy hunting are minimised.

All European countries, USA, China, Middle East should ban animal trophies from Africa only them will our local animals have a chance of survival. If you want to hunt as a sport you can release dangerous criminals and hunt them instead.

I doubt Zambia will ever have much say in UK parliamentary decisions anyway, but the only study quoted (Challender) does not say anything much (i.e. data) about impacts on local people in the hunting areas except that it hasn’t been studied (and then no references are given by the authors of this article to any study or hard data on this either). Interestingly the study also states with references that lion populations in Zambia and neighbouring countries have been found to have suffered directly from trophy hunting

Animals should only be killed for food. The sophistication of man is so advanced that an animal killed in an endangered region will be disguised as one from an area abundant in that type.

Trophy hunting is animal cruelty. Let the animals die naturally, even if it is male lions killing another male lion during the takeover of a pride of females. If we, as Zambians, went to the UK and killed their highland deers for a trophy fee, their RSPCA would have us arrested at Heathrow Airport. Ban it for good!
